CANCELLED: 2020 One World Choir, Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020

In June 2020, The Gustavo Dudamel Foundation is bringing 20 members of the Simón Bolívar Chorus to the Shinjuku Gyoen in Tokyo, Japan to sing as part of 2020 One World Choir, a choir made up of over 200 singers from 28 countries on 6 continents, in special performances Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Berlin Philharmonic, led by Gustavo Dudamel.

Co-hosted by Tokyo 2020 and the Spring Festival in Tokyo Executive Committee, the concerts will take place June 24–27, just prior to the opening ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Affixed to the apex of the Beethoven 250 celebrations, Beethoven’s immortal exclamation of joy and brotherhood promotes international cooperation to advance world peace and strengthen global unity through music.

Among the other artists of the 2020 One World Choir will be professional singers from Germany, Spain, Australia, Venezuela, South Africa, China, Japan, and more, students from Japan, and members of the Japanese White Hands Chorus, a choir made up of deaf people who perform a unique form of movement art choreographed to music.

The “Spring Festival in Tokyo Special Concert Berliner Philharmoniker in Tokyo 2020” coincides with the 250th year anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven and the 75th year anniversary of the end of World War II.
